Open Score encourages and trains composers at all levels of experience to write music that is artistically challenging yet technically accessible to amateur musicians. Launched in September 2003, the initiative is already dramatically increasing the amount of quality repertoire available to amateurs.

Open Score Call for Pieces 2005/6

A chance to win tuition with Michael Finnissy and a place in the next printed Open Score collection and CD alongside established composers.

The following composers have been commissioned to write works for Open Score 2005/6: Michael Finnissy, Laurence Crane, Claudia Molitor, Andrew Toovey, Howard Skempton, John White and Dave Smith

Performances of works generated from earlier Open Score Calls for Pieces have taken place in a range of venues throughout the UK, including Spitalfields Festival and the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival.

Conservatoires and universities

Those currently involved in Open Score include: Bristol University, Huddersfield University, Queen's University Belfast, Royal Academy of Music, Royal Northern College of Music, Trinity College of Music, Southampton University and Birmingham Conservertoire.
